Costume Jewelry Necklaces

Sometimes you buy a blouse, sweater, or dress and when you get it home, you realize that there is just something missing. It doesn’t quite look right yet. Costume jewelry necklaces are an inexpensive way to bling up your clothes purchase.

They are also a great way to get in on the trends without breaking the bank. In fact, costume jewelry started coming into its own in the twenties and thirties. Before that, jewelry was largely seen as an investment or a status symbol for the affluent.

In the early twentieth century, jewelry began to be viewed as an art form. Wearing it was a form of self-expression and individualism.

Inexpensive costume jewelry necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and pins were marketed as accessories for a specific “costume,” or outfit. These sets were seen as almost disposable, easy to do away with after the trend died down or the outfit didn’t fit anymore.

Today, costume jewelry ranges from extremely cheap baubles to high-end materials and designers. The majority of the ordinary woman’s jewelry for daily wear is made up of costume jewelry pieces. This is practical for two main reasons.

Costume jewelry is cost effective for the budget conscious modern woman. Today’s woman is very active. During everyday activities, if she loses a piece of inexpensive costume jewelry, it is not the end of the world.
